If you read yesterday’s post you know that I am revamping this blog slowly over the next month. Monday is Adventure Day, Tuesday is Game Day! At the moment we are really focused on board games, but I will be throwing in some video games once we get all unpacked.
Back in late November when Suzie came for her visit and I was finally able to start getting Jrod into board games we talked about what would happened when we moved to Virginia. We were just getting our friends really into board games and had to leave the fun groups we had.
The first thing that I did was go on Meetup and look for board game or card game groups. I was able to find three that I thought would work out for us. We haven’t been able to go to any events as of yet though due to housing hunting activities.
One the second day we were in town Jrod googled games stores and we hit the JACKPOT! Atlantis Games & Comics in Norfolk. We were in-game board heaven the moment we walked into the play. Everyone is SO friendly and helpful, we have been going almost every other day back to get more or learn more. Jrod and myself are big supporters of local businesses and LOVE to find the hidden gems of the cities we live in. This is one of them!
It has two floors, the first floor is the store and vending area, then the upstairs is a huge open room filled with tables for games of all sorts. Most people there play card games (Magic, Pokeman, etc) but if you ask they have TONS of board games behind the upstairs counter that you can play for free! Want to know if you will enjoy the game, well come and try it out.
Here are some pictures of the downstairs I took last night during our board game night.
We have actually gotten 3 games so far just from Brian the manager’s recommendations:
Munchkin Quest
Tsuro of the Seas
Settlers of Catan *collectors edition **we did not pay the amazon prices
We also have a couple more we want to get thanks to Brian, but we need more players first. We also have the crew at Atlantis Games to thank for introducing us to T.A.G.S. which is the Tidewater Area Gaming Society. They do monthly board game events, and we were so sad to find out we missed it by a couple of days in January. There next one is on February 9th and our calendars are clear for that day!! I personally can’t wait!!
Last night we played Munchkin Quest and though another event was also taking place people stopped to talk about it or just to watch us play for a little bit. I will keep you up to date about the events we go to, but I have a really good feeling about meeting new friends with the same interest this way. The review of Munchkin Quest will be coming up over the next couple of weeks.
Have you been wanting to get into more in-depth or challenging games from the ones we all grew up with but don’t know where to start? Check out other one of my post about board games and google your local game store, you might be surprised about what you have in your own backyard.
What games have you been wanting to try?
What games can you not stop playing?

Catan can be a bit complex and I’ve found the card game “Struggle for Catan” is pretty cheap, pretty easy to learn and not completely void of depth. It’s a pretty good primer for the more complex predecessor i think. I think you should really throw some cooperative games in the mix something like Pandemic (new edition coming out in Feb) can be a lot of fun because teaching someone complex games is a lot more fun when you’re allowed to look at their cards.
Dominion is also a fantastic card game that will have lots of legs. Not only are there various strategies for the game as it’s set up. You can change the cards being used and you’ll have hundreds of permutations that change the game ever farther. All that and it’s pretty darn easy to pick up for new players.
Hi thanks for sharing with us. When we go to a new city we need to make friends. In a new city . It is not a difficult task make a new friends in a new city. We can find friends online who are like us means to say that who have similar interests as we have. We can meet these friends offline also. Meet People in Your Area/City
